Doctor of Chiropractic (DC)
Clinic Director of NW Sports Rehab
Diplomate of the American Chiropractic Rehabilitation Board (DACRB)
Dr. Kurtz is the clinic director for NW Sports Rehab, a multi-disciplinary clinic integrating sports
chiropractic, acupuncture, soft tissue treatment, rehabilitation, sports specific training, and
performance enhancement in Federal Way, WA. The creation of NW Sports Rehab was the
culmination of his many years of work on some of the best sports medicine staffs and clinics in
the country — including the US Olympic Training Center and the PGA TOUR. His goal was to
bring the same high level of multidisciplinary sports medicine care utilized in professional sports
to the general public. “I wanted to get away from the traditional chiropractic treatment approach where the patient is coming back again and again for ongoing manipulation or soft tissue treatment which so often provides only temporary relief. Instead, I wanted to look at the entire musculoskeletal system and to teach and give the patient all the tools they needed to be a full participant in their recovery. This active care approach is what the research has shown to be much more effective in resolving patients musculoskeletal problems.”
Dr. Kurtz is the team chiropractor for the Seattle Seahawks, a member of the sports medicine staff
of the PGA TOUR, and a consultant to the Seattle Sounders, FC. He holds the distinction of being the
first chiropractor ever selected by the US Olympic Committee to an international Paralympic
event. He was selected as Team USA’s chiropractor to the 2007 ParaPan American Games in
Rio De Janeiro, Brazil, and again for the 2008 Paralympic Games in Beijing, China. His work with
Paralympic athletes made a huge impact on his life and continues to inspire him. “Paralympic
athletes taught me that you do not need to see or hear or have your limbs or even the ability to walk
to still achieve great things in life, and to do it with a smile. I discovered that true strength comes from
the heart, the soul, and the spirit — and there are no limits to those.”
Dr. Kurtz has authored several articles on sports injuries, sports chiropractic, and rehabilitation.
He has lectured on his Olympic and Paralympic experiences as well as the Diagnosis,
Treatment, and Rehabilitation of the Shoulder to the National Strength & Conditioning Association
(NSCA), Washington State Clinic, and the ACA Sports Council’s annual symposium.
Dr. Kurtz has served in many events as part of the chiropractic or sports medicine staff, including:
Among his hobbies are cycling, running, triathlons, hiking, riding his motorcycle, and spending
time with his wife, two boys, and two dogs.
